a word about these past 3-6-5

I can't believe it, but it was one year ago today that we hopped on a plane to move our lives to Haiti. How can it have already been a year? Time seems to have stopped from June until about this past April, because life as we knew it was so different. Now that it's summer again, I find myself thinking of and missing Haiti almost every day. The heat, the smell of gasoline, the busyness of city dwellers as I walk through the streets- it all awakens glimpses of memories of our every day lives there. I remember so much about each day so perfectly, it doesn't seem that 365 days have already come and gone...

have a bright weekend

Friday is here and I am pooped. I think this whole working full time thing is finally catching up to me! I'm off to take a quick Friday nap, and wishing you a wonderfully bright weekend. Here are just a few fun links I stumbled upon this week. xoxo

Lennon and Maisy are at it again.

Probably not tough enough for my clumsy hands, but still beautiful.

Decisions like this make me believe that maybe the world is actually becoming a better place, after all.

Kate's classy, no matter what she wears.

How it feels to hold a brand new baby...

Anyone else out there finding that this has also become their life??

Have a good one!

thrift store thriving

I did it! I made a thrift store purchase to be proud of. I saw the geometric patterns, and though a little 80's, they still seemed to fit with the current geo trend. Just rip out the shoulder pads and voila! I've got a cute blouse to dress up a comfortable outfit for work.

How about you? Any good shopping finds recently?

Tips for thrift store shopping.

at it again

Have you started any new workout routines recently? Andrew and I went on our first run last night on the Atlanta Beltline (where we saw celebrities Dywane Wade, Gabriella Union, and Queen Latifah ride by us on bikes a few days ago, I might add). The beltline is an inspiring place to run. If the frequent celebrity sightings aren't enough to get you going, there's also swarms of people doing all kinds of fun actives to stay active- walking, running, bike riding, skate boarding, even roller blading. And don't forget all of the dogs you see along your trek. It also has beautiful scenery as you run over bridges with views of midtown, and pass by local restaurants and lovely fields of wild flowers. Running has never been my thing, but somehow I let my dad sign me (and my entire family) up for the annual Peachtree Road Race. It's in a week and half... better late than never to start training, right?... Yikes. Any tips from running lovers??

Have a splashy weekend!

What do you have planned this weekend? Tonight, Andrew and I are going to use a gift card for dinner and I might try to talk him into seeing this movie, since I read the book several months ago. I'm working at another wedding tomorrow, and some of our closest friends are staying the night with us. Stay cool in this heat-- find a pool! Or kick it old school and find a sprinkler ;) xoxo

What a lovely palette.

Sweet words.

A "can't stop re-watching it's so crazy" kind of video.

How adorable! A young Meryl.

The truth, if you so allow.

Just lounging around.

An interesting perspective on an every day habit.

250 new emojis are being released this summer- Read about it on my sister's hilarious blog.

Did you know that women should consume no more than 24 grams of sugar a day? It might be time for a change in the American diet.

There's just something about the love of a dog...

One more to drive that last point home :)

Part of my thought process in my slow pull away from social media.

Would you dare? Not sure if I could pull it off...

Prettiest little babies.

Oh, swoon.

back from the beach

Last week, Andrew and I spent several days at the beach in Southport, North Carolina. His grandparents, who live in Southport, left us their home to ourselves while they toured Russia. Here are some pictures below, if you'd like to see...

Have a great weekend!

What are your plans for this weekend? We are already off to a busy start- I'm helping a friend coordinate a wedding and Andrew's brother is coming in town for the weekend. Tomorrow, we are off for a short beach trip! I just have one fun link for you today, a little entertainment for your Saturday morning :)

I've never really dreamt of being a dancer, but this group makes me reconsider! Don't you just want to get up and move?!

Have a good one! xo

measuring your strength

"When the path before you is dotted with difficulties, beware of measuring your strength against those challenges. That calculation is certain to riddle you with anxiety... Regardless of the day's problems, (He) can keep you in perfect peace as you stay close to (Him)."

the little piece of heaven

What was your summer routine when you were growing up? Both of my brothers are at camp this week, and it seems that with each summer that passes I miss it just a little more. I was able to be a part of camp for 16 years, and after 5 years of full time counseling and with marriage on the horizon, I was ready to call it quits. Now, as I see my brother spending his summers as a full time counselor, I am reminded of the sense of family amongst campers, counselors, and workers, and the beauty in the calm of each morning before the crazy begins.

I also miss the time away from the world, with some of my best friends just a cabin away. After the directors of 20+ years stepped down and a new couple took their place, the next generation has risen to call camp their home. They've created a new space, with new trends and personalities and activities. But the same will be true for everyone- a safe haven to connect with God and grow to love Him more deeply.

And one more memory just for fun... ;)

good reads

I'm trying to get back on my book grind. Once we moved, I kinda fell out of my newly developed and well-loved habit of speeding through books left and right. Now with a beach trip in the near future, I'm putting together a wish list on Amazon and trying to narrow down a couple books that I can bring with me. Do you have any suggestions?

Here are just a few on my list so far:

1. The Spectacular Now
2. The Maze Runner
3. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)
4. Pride and Prejudice // I know, I know, you "can't believe" I haven't read it. Well, it's on my list.
5. The Mortal Instruments, as recommended by a reading buddy

P.S. Check this out, if you're looking for a book, too!

Happy Reading!
