shout out to the last warm shower I will probably have in a while, and the last salad I'll be eating for the next 2.5 months (if this can be categorized as a salad...)

also, shout out to the dude blasting Christina Aguilera and Beyonce on his Samsung Galaxy in the terminal.

see you soon, U.S.!!

Something I decided to pack last minute...

There's something I decided that this trip-of-a-lifetime requires...

final thoughts...

today is the day! we are busy packing and doing last minute things before we head out around 4:00. We have a layover tonight in Ft. Lauderdale, then we officially land in Port-au-Prince tomorrow morning around 9, where we will be picked up by a close friend. I am full of nerves- both "normal travel" nerves, and "I just realized I am moving to Haiti and I have no idea what I'm doing and I miss my family already" nerves...

Last night we had a final family dinner at Frontera. Afterwards, we spent a little time celebrated my mom's birthday (July 3), and had a family prayer. I was so moved in realizing how much I am going to miss these 5 people that have always been just right down the street from me.

living simply

Moving to Haiti means downsizing... a lot. Luckily we have wonderful parents and psudeo-parents who are storing our stuff over the next year (thanks, mom&dad and tom&deb!). I am really looking forward to living more simply, even if it does mean parting with AC for a while.

However, we are bringing a few new and recently purchased items that I am excited about- one thing being my substitute wedding band. I'm choosing to leave my original engagement ring and wedding band safely with mom and dad in the states.

I was so excited to find this ring on Etsy. Now I am just praying that it makes it to me in the mail before we fly out Saturday evening...

check out some other rings I considered here and here and here

Update: The ring made it to us a few hours before we left! Now I can officially be married in Haiti ;)
