bringing american dating to haiti

Saturday night we went out on the town for a date, and I think we found our new trifecta...

First Stop: Sushi at a new restuarant, Haiku. Andrew got the spicy tuna, and I got the salmon and shrimp... and it was seriously the best sushi we have ever had. We have been craving it and wanting to go back every day since!

Second Stop: We walked a couple blocks down to a casual chain restaurant, Epi d'Or. We've noticed it's the spot where Haitians of all ages like to hang out. There are multiple food options, almost like a cafeteria, and all for relatively cheap. We got some cookies and cream ice cream even though we were still stuffed with sushi...

Third Stop: Then we walked back up a few blocks to the brand new Best Western Hotel to chill in the AC and watch tv in the lobby. We got some cold drinks and chatted with the Haitian bar tender, and felt really ritzy for about half an hour :) (we think we found our new hang out spot- such fast wifi)

It was nice to take a break and find some new favorite spots. Also, our host family dropped us off and picked us up, so we felt like either  1) middle schoolers on their first date or 2) really important people with a chauffeur.

This week we have several meetings planned and will be beginning to get the ball rolling with some of this Orphan Education Fund work. It has been nice to have time to settle in and get acquainted with life here, but I am looking forward to feeling a little more productive in doing something tangible. Andrew also has some great developments underway-- as always, we promise to keep the updates coming!

  1. Cute pictures! I bet Best Western would love to have you guys do an add for them..."Feel like you're at home anywhere - watch TV in our lobby." Cute dress too...better keep an eye on it. ;) You might want to set up a sting operation to determine why your clothes keep vanishing! (Raccoons?)
