the most wonderful time... almost.

Now that it's November and the weather here in Atlanta has been oh so chilly, I am all ready for Christmas decorations :) I'm trying to demonstrate self-control, but as the girls and I decided in our group text this morning, it might be okay to start displaying at least "winter" decorations ;) How early is too early for a Christmas tree? Thanksgiving is so late this year... I'm trying to convince Andrew to let me put up a tree at least the weekend before! I've never been the type to rush into the holidays like this. But last year, we were living with my parents and did not have a tree of our own, much less a house to decorate. So it's been a long time coming :)

storage swooning

I've been on the lookout for pretty ways to store our books and other odds and ends. I love this kitchen shelf, above, and the look and feel of all the kitchen tools resting on it. You know I brake for soft, neutral tones and natural materials :) 

I went to Ikea for the FIRST time (ever) last week, and immediately fell in love with this glass-door cabinet. How sweet would it look in a kitchen nook, with glazed stoneware dishes on display and ready for any impromptu dinner party? Also perfect storage for linens, cookbooks, mason jar glasses, pretty coffee mugs, serving platters... Practical and easy on the eyes, a combination for the win ;) those should be good enough reasons for Andrew to give me the thumbs up, right?!

The weather has been so warm this week- it feels like we skipped right over spring and went straight to summer. I don't know if I'm ready for this much heat yet! Pollen counts have already jumped from 50 on Monday to 5,230 today (!), so have those tissues ready. What are your plans for the weekend? warm weather is a bad influence

So, I have a confession to make.
Yesterday, I walked into Hobby Lobby with the intention of only buying a few knobs for my current dresser renovation project (pictures coming soon!). Oh, how we women can be so easily deceived by these little "just going to get one thing" lies when we walk into places like Hobby Lobby, T.J. Maxx, or Target. I mean, everything has my name on it and it's all just so cheap! So, back to my confession... I did buy my knobs. Success! And... I bought... THIS!

Although we don't have a big spending budget right now, I couldn't resist. It's just so cute and summery!! Every newly wed must have some adorable way to serve drinks. And, now I can use it as a contribution to all my friend's future bridal and baby showers. 

So there. I'm sorry I'm not sorry. 50% off at Hobby Lobby, you get me every time.

coffee table inspiration

I'm about to wrap up a couple DIY furniture projects, and am now looking to accessorize. I am on the hunt for a good coffee table book or two. I would love something with dreamy pictures for guests to scan through. Any suggestions?

I currently have this book, and am planning to make a wedding album (long overdo). Wouldn't it be awesome if Kinfolk had a coffee table book?!

P.S. some DIY coffee tables, and a cute idea for a game table.

a seat to sit

As we get closer (hopefully) to making our next move, my mind is also set on something a bit bigger than prints and wall decor: furniture. Specifically, couches. I passed mine and Andrew's old college couches onto my brother, and do not wish to ever have those back in my home again. Instead, I'd love to find something new to bring our new home a fresh, mature look. I love white, but I'm not sure I could convince Andrew (he's way more into darker colors). This grey couch (photo above) seems like a nice compromise. A little bit of color, but still softens and brightens the room without making it too overwhelming.

I also think this little bench from World Market is a nice alternative to a love seat. So elegant but still functional. 

And, of course, I'd absolutely love a good, dark leather chair (who doesn't?)- so cozy.

What about you? Any tips or suggestions on where to find good, inexpensive couches and chairs? Spill your secrets :)

Have you seen photographs printed onto canvas? WeddingWire.com is offering a gift of a free 8x10 canvas (originally $45 value) if you complete a survey/reference for two of your wedding vendors on their site. You still have to pay for shipping (unless someone can find a coupon that can be combined!), but it still seems like an okay deal for an alternative way to display a photo. Maybe you could find something less expensive at a local drug store, but I bet the quality wouldn't be as great. Could be worth a shot!

georgia on my mind

For a couple who met in Georgia, how sweet is this print? Once we find jobs and move into our own place, I am hoping to bring some sentimental Georgia pieces to our space, to remind us of the special places and memories. I also like this sweet and simple print, and this map print. I have a typography map similar to this one, but it is of Athens-Clarke County. In the past, I've always been at a loss with what to decorate my walls with besides photographs of friends and family. I've been collecting some art pieces to add a little diversity to our future walls, and I am so excited for when I finally get to hang it all :)

What about you? What do you like to hang on your walls? Any ideas or suggestions for unique displays??

I am in love with this desk from World Market. It is the rustic minimalist's dream. It's on sale, it's almost my birthday… I'm thinking this is not a coincidence ;) This little shelf would look cute next to it, for extra storage.

I've also had my eye on this coffee table for quite a while, though based on the reviews, it doesn't seem to withstand the normal wear and tear of glasses and food contact. This is a cute alternative, but I'm not sure the reviews are much better. Bummer! Any suggestions on where to find similar style, but good quality furniture?

terrarium inspiration

In our next home, I'd really like to make it more green. In addition to the succulents I've been day dreaming about, I also have visions of having a terrarium or two. Honestly, they used to confuse me and I wondered what the big deal was. But we recently stayed at Lucille's Mountain Top Inn & Spa (we would definitely recommend!), which was beautifully decorated and had a couple little terrariums in their breakfast room. They were so simple, but created such a beautiful, earthy feel.

Wouldn't this be such a fun table centerpiece?

And I absolutely love these terrarium prints. 

They'd be lively in a living room, or even so sweet in a nursery.

house dreaming

This week we have been visiting Boston and staying with our good friends, Alexandra and Jesse. Alexandra has decorated their apartment so beautifully, it's got me day dreaming about our next home. All of our belongings are scattered across various friends' homes in Georgia- basements, attics, and bedrooms. I'm really looking forward to having our own space again to call our own. 

These succulents, above, belong to our friend Michaela and have me feeling inspired. She also had some lovely prints from Ikea, similar to these. Hoping that very soon we will know which city we will next call home!
