costuming

With today being Halloween, I have to give a shoutout to my friend Olivia and the many genius costumes she had me be a part of in college. They are some of my favorite memories from this time in life, ones that still can make me laugh til I cry as I reimagine the night and the thrill of it.

Evil Disney Villans (not including Bo Peep and the Caveman...)

The best thing about my college Halloween experience, is while most college girls use Halloween to get dolled up, my Halloweens were spent competing with my girl friends on how ugly we could make ourselves. Way more fun! :)

Shrek

Sesame Street... the creepiest of them all. So creepy that we broke our "Best Costume" winning streak! To my sister!

She's so good, that one year a household of girls in the college ministry each went to Halloween dressed as one of her previous costumes. Genius inspiring genius.

Grinch, Shrek, Ursula, and Oscar the Grouch... not including a few others.

Now that's talent :)

simply imagine

This clip of BJ Novak reading this book with no pictures is killing me! I love the kids reacting to the words- showing them to find imagination and creativity in words alone. Such a beautiful, albeit so silly, book, because it produces something magical in these kids! I just can't get the teacher out of me... ;)

Also... Awesome People Reading.

soup part two

I've been a little MIA this week- October is wonderful, but always seems to get so busy so fast! I haven't forgotten about my weekly yummy recipe commitment :) This week, I made another soup-- this one was even better than the last. And SO easy. Do yourself a favor and treat yo'self this week :)

october :)

Now that it's October, it can officially feel like fall :) I'm looking forward to some cooler temperatures this weekend, and have been really getting into the fall spirit by buying pretty much every fall related item at Trader Joe's. I have pumpkins, fall flowers, pumpkin joe-joe's, and have already bought 4 squashes. I'm trying all kinds of new recipes I'm finding online, and I would love to share one with you each week. So, I give you.... Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato Soup!

How good is homemade soup? It tastes so fresh, so light, and so full. The best part about this soup is that it's totally vegan. The fall vegetables fill you right up without weighing you down. And I never would have thought that fresh ginger could liven up a soup so much! I don't get out much when it comes to cooking from scratch, but is ginger usually a fall soup ingredient?! I guess I will find out... I have a few other soups on my list for this season! Also, when you're making this just for two, you have left overs for days :) :)

Happy Slurping!!!

midwest movie time

Andrew and I watched Nebraska the other night, the six-time Academy Award nominated film that is completely in black and white and stars 77 year old actor Bruce Dern. It is charming and subtly hilarious- the kind of innocent humor that makes you both giggle and laugh out loud. The characters are endearing, and the black & white intriguing. Put it on your list if you need a night in :)
